Limited Edition Sculpture by Marie Smith
“Armand” is a professional artist’s model. Born in Albania and raised in Florence, Italy, his pose offered a unique blend of strength, elegance and soulful intensity.
Over two weeks of studio sessions, long hours and intense observation were made lighter by lively conversations about Italian cooking, family recipes and the simple pleasures of life. Those shared moments are quietly woven into the character of the finished work.
The original sculpture was modelled in terra rossa di Montelupo clay, capturing the warmth and earthy tones of classical Italian fired clay. This limited edition Jesmonite cast beautifully mirrors that original finish, preserving the texture and colours of the clay.
“Armand” was shortlisted for the Zurich Portrait Prize at the National Gallery of Ireland in 2023 and won the Highly Commended Prize.
